My
work is ecological. During my travels around Australia the flora
and fauna and the different landscape that I encountered influenced
me. I also found the traditional lives of the aboriginals inspiring
and began using plants as a material to make sculpture.
The materials I use are very significant; they are often a means
of communication. Mostly I use plants because I am interested in
sustainable methods of living but I do use other materials depending
on the aims of my projects. In the past I have used lead, plaster,
wax and less traditional materials like lard.
Since March 2003 I have been combining my art with the work of environmental
organisations. My projects have included working with The Cornwall
Wildlife Trust, The Monkey Sanctuary and Falmouth Green Centre.
These projects are process based and are often represented visually
using photography, video and objects. The process is as important
as any artefact produced and it is about my experiences of interacting
with the environment in a positive way. |
